Cute and Weird Girl Cartoon

We all have a general perception of people. Well, have you ever thought about how you perceive fellow human beings, in general? What is the most common word with which you have described people? Does “People are so mean” or “People are stupid” sound familiar to you? If yes, keep reading, as our experience in this world can be completely changed just by shifting our way of viewing people.

In school, I used to feel that people are mean or hateful. I didn't have any grudges for anyone as such, I just used to dislike people in general. I was grumpy in my early teens. However, this phase was short-lived and lasted for only a year or two. I started my days as a college student and my perception about people very well changed. It was then I started seeing all individuals as good persons to the point where I ignored all their bad qualities.

For a fairly major part of my life, I’ve perceived people as “nice” which is not completely untrue. However, perceiving the world as merely good might leave you feeling stupid when you are proved otherwise or even make you feel broken when people start taking advantage of the good in you.

Seeing people as mean or dumb is also not the right approach. Life can be unfair, and you may have some experiences which make you see people as fake and unfaithful beings. This idea of perceiving people as selfish or mean also seems unreasonable, as it completely ignores whatever good that’s left in the world.

As we have understood that a general perception of people as good or bad is unjust, we do need to perceive people in a way that doesn’t feel too extreme as the world we live in is pretty grey rather than the black and white world that we imagine it to be sometimes. I’m gonna share teachings from the book called “The Rudest Book Ever' by Shwetabh Gangwar. It has this chapter called 'People are Weird' which tells us that people are well, weird.

People can be mysterious sometimes and each and every person is unique. We can never know someone’s complete life story as we have not been in their shoes. People have a tendency to react in unexpected ways. To sum it up, different people have different traits. If we had to describe all these traits in one word, ‘weird’ does the job quite well because people are complex and it's hard to understand them.

Perceiving the world as weird can have its own advantages:

1.   It is not too extreme and balances out the good and bad traits very nicely

2.   Weird is relatable and cool which makes us see the world in a fun way

3.   It gives us more room to understand people rather than forming judgements based on first impressions.

4.   We overanalyze the situations lesser as we realise that people are weird and It's not our sole job to figure out why they behaved a certain way

5.   We get better at facing rejections as we don’t keep blaming ourselves for everything.

When we see or meet someone new, we start assuming things about them based on what we perceive or what they choose to show. Having a general assumption about people before you truly get to know them will come in handy and you won’t jump to conclusions based on first impressions.

Some points of this chapter may seem awfully obvious, but this is important to me as it gave me a guide to perceive people in an apt way which I otherwise struggled with. Hence I’ve named my blog 'Weirdistic' because when you think about it, we all are very weird in our own weird ways and we all should embrace our weirdness and be more weirdistic.
